Client Access License Update
With the move to Exchange 2007, the Exchange Client Access Licenses (CALs) were removed from mailbox subscriber fees. This was done to allow units the option of purchasing these either through their own department's Microsoft Campus Agreement or through Facilities and Services Stores and Receiving under the University's Microsoft Select Agreement. In an email to all CITES Exchange Service subscribers on September 5th 2007, it was stated that subscribers would be responsible for all necessary Exchange Client Access Licenses (CALs) at the start of the 2009 fiscal year or July 1, 2008. Since the three year University Microsoft Select Agreement starts on August 1, 2008, we are advising subscribers to purchase CALs after the new agreement begins. Microsoft Select Licenses are valid through the end of the three year agreement period.
There are two options for licensing client access for mailboxes that both include purchasing the Exchange Standard CAL.

Option 1: Purchase the Exchange Standard CAL along with the Exchange Enterprise CAL with Software Assurance. Costs associated with this option are listed below:
- 19607825 - Microsoft Select Exchange Standard CAL 2007: $2.82
- 19640825 - Microsoft Select Exchange Server Enterprise CAL w/Svc License and Software Assurance: Still to be determined by Stores and Receiving but should be approximately $22-$24. Note: This option includes three years of Software Assurance which will need to be renewed at the end of that period. Renewal costs are approximatley $5.00 per year. Enterprise CAL without Software Assurance is not sufficient to be legal.

Option 2: Purchase the Exchange Standard CAL along with a subscription. Costs associated with this option are listed below:
- 19607825 - Microsoft Select Exchange Standard CAL 2007: $2.82
- 9SG-00050 - Subscription: $.32/month for each remaining month until August 1, 2011
