Microsoft Outlook 2003

Configuration Instructions

To set up Outlook 2003 for Exchange:

  1. If you are already using Outlook, click on Mail in the Control Panel
    (If you have not used Outlook before, click the Outlook icon on your desktop)

  2. Double-click on the Default Profile

  3. When the Outlook Startup Wizard launches, click Next

  4. When prompted to set up a new email account, Yes is checked by default; click Next

  5. Select Add a new e-mail account and click Next

  6. Note: If you have an existing e-mail account in Outlook, you will first need to remove that account by selecting View or change existing e-mail accounts, clicking Next and then selecting your account and clicking Delete. If you were using a POP account, your existing e-mail will remain on your local computer in the folder you were having it delivered to.


  7. For Server Type, select Microsoft Exchange Server and click Next

  8. For the name of the Microsoft Exchange Server, type in ad.uiuc.edu
  9. Check Use Cached Exchange Mode, to take advantage of certain functionality, such as Junk E-mail (spam) filtering or the ability to continue working when not connected to a network
  10. For User Name, type in your NetID
  11. Click Check Name (Your NetID should become underlined as it is found on the Exchange server.)

  12. If you were already using Outlook, your account will now be displayed, and the window will show that your e-mail is now being delivered to your mailbox. Click Finish.

    (If this is not the case, select the mailbox associated with your NetID in the drop down menu and click Finish )
